Abstract

The development of industrial revolution 4.0 shift the mindset of the people in assessing a product so producers must be able to maintain the quality of products. PT. AA are a dairy industry produce sterile milk product committed to give a quality assurance and get consumer trust. But, product quality hasn't reached the company's target due to a decrease in quality products. High product quality decline due to defective products caused by the machine not working optimally, wrong methods or human factor. Six sigma methods were used to improve the quality of product to the target 3.4 failures per million opportunities for each product or service transaction. Six sigma can use to indentified defective type, causative factors and give a recommendation to decrease defective product. Six sigma method has five steps namely DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control). DMAIC has problem solving tools like SIPOC diagram, table CTQ (Critical to Quality), Pareto diagram, P Control chart, Fishbone diagram, and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analyze). Application of the six sigma method to sterile milk production line showed that the damage of scratch in seal was the highest cause of defective product with 35 %, unbalance defect by 25 %, and broken or leaking bottle by 17 %. The main causative factors comes from non-standard sterilization baskets. The application of six sigma was proved capable of raising the value of sigma level from 4.46 sigma to 4.58 sigma, which indicated improvement in quality of sterile milk product.
